The art of faking it

We all know there’s a bit of “movie magic” happening all the time on our TV and movie screens.

But who knew just how extensive green screen magic really was? It seems there really is an art to faking it.

Everyday Minimalist shared a great video highlighting some of the “everyday” uses of the green screen magic… which includes shots from Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty and others.

And yet while we know Hollywood has gotten really good at faking it for movies and TV, I wonder how many other “fakes” we fall for in our lives on a daily basis.

Perhaps they’re lies told by Hollywood, friends and family members, or maybe it comes back to us not taking the time to learn “the rest of the story.”

A few myths/lies/fakes (call ‘em what you’d like) we may fall victim to…

  • That car will make you happy
  • You deserve a bigger home
  • You can always save for the future – in the future
  • You can get rich quickly
  • Everybody’s doing it
  • You can buy your happiness
  • This soft drink will satisfy you
  • These shoes will make you a better athlete
  • Money is evil

And on that I can easily fall victim to… This gadget will make your life easier/better and you’ll do things far more efficient that you ever did before.

To overcome these fakes, perhaps we need to spend some time closely examining both sides of the coin.

An interesting thing about most counterfeit experts, is they spend a great deal of time examining the originals, but they also spend a lot of time examining the fakes as well. And the more time they spend examining both — the better they get at their jobs.

So what about you? What “fakes” have you fallen victim to? How have you overcome them?
