Simple Manifesto #27 – Create a simple system for house work

simplemanifesto

This is part of our series on The Simple Living Manifesto. We invite you to join us on the journey.

The 27th idea in the manifesto is:

Create a simple system for house work. Another example of a simple system is clean-as-you-go with a burst. Read more.

Cleaning in bursts | Photo by Jonathan Blundell

While we don’t have a schedule for our short bursts, this is how much of the cleaning around our house is done — especially with our house on the market.

If we notice things (or dirt or dust) starting to pile up, we’ll start a quick burst of cleaning.

It might be 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there but it makes things so much more manageable. If we keep it up during the week, we’re never spending more than 30 minutes or so on the weekends cleaning.
nd such.

Between my wife and I, I’m not sure how we could do it any other way.

It’s just so much easier for us to take care of things when we notice them, rather than ignoring them, hoping they’ll take care of themselves (that is except for that stack of mail :-) ).

So what about you? How you approach cleaning house and household chores?
