Simple foods full of nutrition

While living simply definitely leans heavily towards consuming less, it also leans towards consuming the right things.

What will have the least consequences in the long run?

And it’s becoming more and more apparent that this idea rings just as true for the food we eat as well.

Food Network star Alton Brown recently lost 50 pounds by adopting an eating lifestyle built not only around consuming less food (in proper portions) but also consuming foods full of nutrition vs energy.

Here’s the break down of what he now eats:

  • Daily Eats: Fruits, Whole Grains, Leafy Greens, Nuts, Carrots, and Green Tea.
  • Foods To Eat 3 Times A Week: Oily Fish, Yogurt, Broccoli, Sweet Potato, and Avocado.
  • Foods To Eat 1 Time A Week: Red Meat, Dessert, Pasta and Alcohol
  • Zero Times A Week: Fast Food, Soda, Processed Meals, Canned Soups and “Diet” Anything

Like Michael Pollan, Alton Brown says to avoid anything and everything with Diet in the name. “After all I’m not on a diet… and the artificial sweeteners have so deadened our pallet that we can’t even taste real sweet when we get it.”

Brown also says he learned breakfast is the most vital meal of the day when trying to lose weight — and he shares a great recipe for a fruit smoothie on the Good Eats episode, in which he discusses his change in diet.

While it’s available, you can watch Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3 on YouTube.
